Shepherd’s Pie in a Bread Bowl

Casaculinarian.com recipe for 6 bread bowls

(bake ahead of time)

mashed potatoes:

potatoes peeled 5 large

butter 5 tablespoons

salt and pepper taste

onion powder 1 teaspoon

parsley 1 teaspoon

milk 1-1.5 cups

Peel potatoes and cut into even portions so the cook equally. Add to boiling water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Cook until tender. Drain. Add 1 cup of milk all seasonings and butter. Only add more milk if needed.

Shepherds Pie:

beef chop meat 1.5 pounds

onion 1 small diced

carrots 2 diced

frozen peas 1/8 cup

Dry Brown Gravy package 1 envelope

(makes 1 cup of gravy)

Chicken Bouillon 1

Water 1 3/4 cups

olive oil 1 tablespoon

garlic chopped 1 teaspoon

salt and pepper taste

onion powder 1 teaspoon

parsley 1 teaspoon

In a large saute pan add chop meat over medium heat. Brown and break meat down. When cooked drain meat in colander. In saute pan add olive oil, diced carrots, onion, and garlic. Sweat until vegetables are browning.

Add chop meat back to saute pan. Add bouillon cube, gravy packet, water, and seasonings. Let simmer for 30 minutes until sauce thickens. Add frozen peas and shut stove off. Mix.

Time to make your Shepherds Pie bread bowls. Hollow out a bread bowl keeping top for garnish. Fill with meat mixture. Top with mashed potatoes. I like to dust some thick onions with salt, pepper, and flour and fry. Makes for a delicious garnish. Serve with a few Onion Rings. Enjoy!
